Soak It Up! with Rain Barrels, Rain Gardens, & Native Plants

Rain barrels and rain gardens are suitable for residents to retain part of their property’s runoff effectively. Franklin Soil and Water, like many other conservation districts around the state, has offered subsidized rain barrels for several years, and continues to do so through our Community Backyards program. Many rain barrel owners find they fill quickly- just a 10 ft. x 10 ft. shed at 100 square feet can capture 60 gallons of water during a 1” rainfall- and that their plants prefer soft, free rainwater. Franklin Soil and Water's Community Backyards program helps residents learn more about these techniques and additional practices. Beginning in May, residents have an opportunity to receive up to $50 towards a conservation rebate item.
