It's that time of year again for the 4th of July weekend and festivities! The Perry Township Police Department has been working with the 4th of July Parade Committee to address and and all safety and liability concerns. Nothing has changed from the previous years and we expect another safe and successful 4th of July weekend! Residents may operate non-street legal golf carts starting Saturday, June 29th, through Friday, July 5th, until 12:00 PM. Street legal, inspected golf carts may be used at any time.
Residents who own, rent, lease, or borrow golf carts for use on public roadways must ensure that they are operating the vehicle in a safe manner. Online licensed drivers can operate a golf cart and must have insurance. If you are stopped by the police, you will be required to produce your driver's license and show proof of insurance. Anyone operating a golf cart must comply with all applicable laws. No golf cart can have more passengers than the manufacturer's designed seating capacity (2, 4, or 6 seats). If your rented golf cart does not have headlights, you are prohibited from operating it in rain, inclement weather, or after dark. Allowing unlicensed drivers to drive golf carts on the roadway or public areas will result in a citation being issued to both the unlicensed driver and the person responsible for the golf cart, and the golf cart will be impounded.
Additionally, during last year's 4th of July parade, several road barricades were moved by individuals prior to the end of the parade, which caused some traffic and safety issues. Please do not remove barricades from the roadway. Anyone removing barricades from the roadway may be cited and/or arrested. The barricades will be removed by authorized personnel after the parade.
The Police Department's goal is to ensure the safety of all our residents and guests during the holiday. By following a few simple guidelines, everyone will continue to enjoy a fun and safe 4th of July. We thank everyone for their support.
