[ARCHIVED] Press Release: Change in Police Levy Plan

Press Release: Perry Township Board Announces Change in Police Levy Plan

The Perry Township Board of Trustees has unanimously voted to not proceed with a proposed Police Levy that was scheduled to appear on the March ballot. The Board made this decision based on new information from Franklin County that shows an increase in the Township's tax base in the near future.

The Board had originally planned to ask the voters to approve a permanent 8.51-mill levy, starting in 2025, to fund the Township's police services. The levy would have generated about $2.7 million per year. The Board determined that this amount was necessary for police staffing and equipment, as well as to address the growing needs of the Township's population and businesses.

However, the Board recently obtained updated projections which indicate that the Township will see an increase in revenue in 2025 when new residential properties are expected to be completed and added to the current tax base.

Based on this new information, the Board believes that it can significantly reduce the amount that it needs to ask from the voters for the Police Levy. The Board plans to revise its proposal and present a new levy for the fall ballot in November, with a lower millage rate. The Board estimates that it can lower the requested millage rate by at least 25%, which will save taxpayer money and still allow the Township to provide the quality police protection our community deserves and expects.
